Cross border cooperation

Cross border cooperation

Caritas Moldova, together with its partners Caritas Ukraine and Caritas Romania, is implementing the project "Cross-border Cooperation on Counter Trafficking and Safe Return", which aims to mitigate the negative effects of the war on vulnerable people in Ukraine who are in transit and to reduce the risks of human trafficking in the three neighbouring countries. The project is supported by Caritas Spain and is being implemented at the regional level, strengthening collaboration between Caritas organizations in the region and relevant actors in the field of protection.

The project has three main objectives:

  1. To develop the capacities of Caritas Moldova, Caritas Ukraine, and Caritas Romania to provide support to victims and potential victims of human trafficking, especially among vulnerable people affected by the armed conflict in Ukraine.
  2. Strengthening cooperation between relevant stakeholders such as government institutions, NGOs, and international organizations in the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, and Romania for a coordinated and effective response to the risks of human trafficking.
  3. Ensuring access for vulnerable people, refugees, internally displaced persons, or those in the process of returning to Ukraine to safe services, accurate information, and social support that protects them from exploitation and abuse.

Through this cross-border collaboration, the three Caritas organizations aim to create common mechanisms for prevention, identification, and assistance for people at risk. Project activities include training for specialists, exchange of best practices, information campaigns, and coordinated support actions for refugees in transit or returning to Ukraine.
