L.M, a pensioner from the Donetsk region of Ukraine, has lived in a hell of gunfire and rockets that haunted her nights. In her heart, fear was the absolute ruler and rest seemed only a distant memory. In April 2022, with a small bag and hope burning in her heart, she decided to leave everything behind and travel to the Republic of Moldova, a place she had never set foot in.
Arriving in Chisinau, she was amazed by the warmth and kindness with which she was greeted by Moldovans. The greenery and beauty of the city delighted her, and in the refugee centre where she was hosted, she found a glimmer of hope in the midst of the unknown.
Even though she was at retirement age, she didn't want to look down, she wanted to look up, to the sky. So she decided to look for a job and get on with her life with dignity. He found a job as a laboratory technician at a research institute, where he works with dedication and passion.
Life as a refugee is not easy, and the terrible memories of the war still haunt her. But with the help of the Caritas Moldova Charity Foundation's mobile team, she got the support she needed. The financial aid and the Maicom voucher enabled her to buy clothes for work and to feel that she was not alone in her struggle.
With gratitude in her heart and tears in her eyes, she thanks from the bottom of her heart all those who contributed to her help. They gave her not only a helping hand but also a ray of hope in a world torn by war and uncertainty.
Looking to the future, she shares a valuable lesson with all those around her: "Whoever really wants to will always find a job. Don't wait for easy gain, but give and help this place and these hardworking people who have known hardships we could never understand. We are fortunate to know them and be inspired by their example."
As a token of gratitude, she brought as a gift to the mobile team of the Caritas Moldova Charity Foundation a simple bouquet of lavender, picked with love and passion. It is a small flower, but it carries with it her whole story of courage and perseverance in the face of adversity.
