As of now, more than 333.949 refugees have crossed into Moldova, nearly 90% of whom are women and children. Even if more than half of the refugee population arriving in Moldova plans to continue onward to the European Union, many of them, in the end, are staying. 97,057 Ukrainian citizens remained on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.
Since the onset of the crisis, Caritas Moldova has been providing critical, comprehensive humanitarian assistance, working to serve newly arriving Ukrainians across the country. Caritas Moldova support has sought to meet physical needs – food, water, shelter and transportation – and care for emotional needs: counseling, social support to understand local resources and options, and activities for children. Caritas Moldova programs are expanding quickly to meet the changing context and growing needs of the emergency, all the while upholding human dignity in its provision of care. Caritas Moldova has also hosted and supported the growing numbers of Caritas member organization partner staff arriving in the country.
