On May 13, 1917, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared in Fatima, Portugal, to the three shepherd children, with an urgent message for the whole world. Between May and October, it appeared five times, and each month was the 13th of the month.
She identified herself as the Virgin Mary of the Rosary and urged the children to pray the rosary daily for world peace (while World War I was wreaking havoc) and to make sacrifices for the conversion of sinners. During these and several previous appearances of an angel, there were five prayers that were learned by Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta.
PRAYER OF FORGIVENESS:
The angel who appeared to the children was called the angel of peace and the angel of Portugal. He taught her the following prayer:
God, I believe, I worship, I hope and I love you! I ask forgiveness for those who do not believe, do not worship, do not hope and do not love You.
THE PRAYER OF THE ANGEL:
One day, the three children saw the angel in front of a chalice hanging in the air. The angel worshiped the Holy Eucharist and prayed:
Holy Trinity - Father, Son and Holy Spirit - I deeply honor you. I offer you the Holy Body, Blood, Soul and Deity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, for the insults, sacrileges and indifference with which he is offended. And through the infinite merits of His Most Holy Heart and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I ask you to convert the poor sinners.
EUCHARISTIC PRAYER:
During the first apparition of Our Lady of Fatima, the children felt "moved by an inner impulse," as Lucia later explained, to say the following prayer together:
Holy Trinity, I adore you! My God, my God, I love you in the Blessed Sacrament.
PRAYER OF PRAYER:
The Blessed Virgin Mary taught the children to offer all their personal sacrifices to God through prayer. The Blessed Virgin Mary emphasized the crucial importance of the daily prayer of the Rosary for the conversion of sinners and for peace in the world. She asked that the next prayer be recited at the end of each rosary decade.
O Jesus, forgive our sins, protect us from the fire of hell, and take all souls to heaven, especially those who need Your mercy most.
