Life is a gift

… because we are responsive to the needs of teenagers and we want to create a friendly environment for them. During 4-8 august 2014, Caritas Moldova has organized the training on „Educational interventions to prevent youth suicidal behaviour“. The training is a part of the project „Children with Future – Future for Children“ – a project designed to educate and promote a pro-life behaviour among children and youth, being financially supported by Austrian Development Cooperation in partnership with Caritas Austria.

The training was attended by trainers from the localities involved in the project (Orhei, Floresti, Cahul and Cantemir districts). The moderators of the training: Mrs. Emilia Moraru and Mrs. Ludmila Schiopu discussed about the personal development of the teens, problems generating suicidal behaviour. Also, a review of suicide prevention strategies and best practices was made. Moreover, during the training there were examined and initiated activities proposed in the Guideline “Life is a gift” – a guide for trainers of the project. It is a theoretical and practical support that will help organizing weekly meetings within the Youth Clubs (activity included within the project).

Mrs. Tatiana Versteac, psychologist within „Altruism“ Association, that attended the event, talked about the online counselling and crisis intervention provided confidentially and free of charge by the association.   The given services are particularly focused on suicide prevention. Thus, the association offers emotional support to all those in need and help people who have suicidal thoughts and/or behavior and also, their relatives.

Our belief is that death through suicide is the only death that can be prevented. It can be prevented through our joint effort – the ordinary people, not only through the efforts of specialists. It is important to understand the factors that make young people commit suicide and to know how to help them.
